“I Promise”

LYRICS:

1. I Promise
Oh, Oh , Oh
I try to stay alive
But I open my eyes and realize
How hard one must try!
As I see the road ahead is littered with the wounded and the dead
But still I go still go before just like a lemming heads to the shore
And when I reach that great big cliff
I get so cold I get so stiff
And then I freeze, I feel it down
It comes up from the ground!
Chorus
Oh oh I Promise, I Promise, I Promise I will try
(I promise I will try) just one more time
(I promise I will try)to stay alive
(I promise I will try!) just one more time, to stay alive!
With every year it seems much more I can only focus on closing doors
It seems it’s all I’ve known I thought it was the way it goes
But for some reason, still I go
And why I do, I do not know
And so I move, and so I move for I have nothing left to lose!

2. When I Was Drunk And You Were High
All our problems were erased,
The air felt fresh upon my face
We felt we were young again,
Without the trials life brought and then
We talked about all we could do,
The future shone for me and you
It seemed that we’d surpass the sky
When I was drunk and you were high
Remember all the stars that night
When I was drunk and you were high
Remember all, remember all
When I was drunk and you were high!
The problems that the years had brought,
Every single fight one fought
The years and all the scars we felt
All the blows that had been dealt
We felt that we were young again
Before we’d lost loved ones and friends
It seemed that we’d surpass the sky
When I was drunk and you were high
Remember all the stars that night
When I was drunk and you were high
Remember all, remember all
When I was drunk and you were high!
The next time that the sun did shine
Our day was gone not your or mine
And so we did all come back down
And crash real hard upon the ground
But when I think of how we felt
Despite the blows that had been dealt
Remember all the stars that night
When I was drunk and you were high!
That night your eyes were still alive
Remember all the stars that night
I swear your eyes were still alive
When I was drunk and you were high

3. I Saw A Flower Bloom Today
Remember our story when a flower we did find
A flower we were sure was one of a kind
We lived out a dream with everything in bloom
The prettiest damn dream we painted lilac blue
Yet there’s a point that we just can not miss
When a flower dies can we seal it with a kiss
Can we begin again and soon be more than friends
For happiness will die if it knows that love will end
But then when you have sun breaking through the brilliant bluest sky
Everything on earth will become both happy and alive
But in the next season what was once gold will always become grey
And I am still amazed at just how fast it can all flake away
Sometimes fantasies are hard to understand
One minute a hero the next a lousy man
But when a line is crossed and one sees just today
Everything we trust quickly goes astray
Others I know in situations just like ours
They don’t say it’s over for they know they have the power
To survive the strongest storm the worst that God can make
The kind that makes a man take all that he can take
But then when you have sun breaking through the brilliant bluest sky
Everything on earth will become both happy and alive
But in the next season what was once gold will always become grey
And still knowing all this I swear I saw a flower bloom today

4. Home
And again and again and again, I’m a stranger in a foreign land
It’s not in my control it’s out of my hands
I’ve been brought to a world that seems new, to redo everything that was true
and to learn once again what that world expects out of you
But fitting in does it ever happen?
Is there a time when a stranger knows he belongs?
it’s when one returns to their country of birth
singing a distant foreigner’s song
This is the way to conquer the world
Trying to live off your charms
Despite good friends the world will reveal
Your home lies in some stranger’s arms
and again and again and again, I’m a stranger in a foreign land
But I’ve made it and I’m happy knowing I can
My family’s in different places, strangers are my oases
It’s what happens when kids are taken away from their lands!
But now I think, I really believe
When one belongs and comes from nowhere
To stay alive, to simply survive
One finds they can make it almost anywhere

5. Desert Wind
The wind blows through and through my skin
While I think of others who came in between
Days race by still it’s only you
And all I should have done , I did not do
Days are all we have and we speed through them to get to the night
Though our body’s tired we can’t sleep although we try and try
So we hit the road to get away from everything we know
And the past we made rears its head and does it every show
And you were gone with the wind
Sometimes I wish the desert wind would blow my broken soul and heart away
And I would be the better man for you for all of our remaining…
Now my life is misery
With you in someone’s arms living fantasies
Days are all we have and we speed through them to get to the night
Though our body’s tired we can’t sleep although we try and try
So we hit the road to get away from everything we know
And the past we made rears its head and does it every show
And you were gone with the wind
Sometimes I wish the desert wind would blow my broken soul and heart away
And I would be the better man for you for all of our remaining days

6. Lovesick
I wonder if you’ll ever hear
If this song will reach your ears
Will you even know it’s me
Or will you turn the radio off, and turn on the TV
Is there some show that you will watch?
With your man, and you all wrapped up in his arms
Some old rerun on TV
Do you ever think of me?
Is his pull all that more strong?
Than some lovesick fool who wrote you a silly song
I’m in love with you
A song that you might never hear
Will it ever reach your ears?
I’m amazed at how ten years
Still live inside me, I hold those memories very dear
I could write you a symphony
But you’d rather watch TV
And if that’s all you want from life
Why is it so hard for me to say goodbye?
Do you ever think of me
When you’re lying there with him, in front of the TV?
I’m in love with you
I’m in love with you
I wonder if you’ll ever hear
If this song will reach your ears
Or is his pull all that more strong
Thank some lovesick old fool’s who wrote you a silly song

7. My Benefactor
What are you doing here?
I was just serving beer
How did you get in here?

What is your name we said
And in our eyes we read
We knew just what we meant
We were self -confident

Then I turned around and met her eager stare
And I got close still playing fair
We went up there
Somewhere way up the stairs

“Expensive place, boy you should go wash your face
And wash your hands you never know
With such a man
And will you think of me as something more than a benefactor?”

I see what I can see
You surely pleasure me
But you amuse me too
So I don’t know what to do, I like you too

But if you stay
I pray you make me feel more
Than just some sort of revolving door
And if you stay
Promise me you’ll never ever go away

And if I stay
Don’t ever doubt anything I say
And I won’t go away
I’ll stay more than today
For you can see
You are worth your weight in gold to me

8. Make Me Feel Heaven
I still recall the way I felt that first time
When I knew I’d have to fight just to keep you mine
Little did I know how excited I could be
Knowing how you could make my heart bleed
So I did raise my flag, I did surrender
To give you the lead
I did it willingly
For I know this is what I need!

Make me feel helpless
Make me feel heaven
What do I call the way that I feel?
How I was programmed
The way I know I am
Am I myself or am I now unreal?
Should I just pray to
Make it go away
And maybe someday have a family?
Or should I lay back, and enjoy every attack
And let things be the way I wish they can be

When something’s there you know you’re not meant to touch
Deep inside it stirs your soul so very much
For I will fight every single living day
To keep you close and keep on in this crazy way
So baby keep me here!
I’m afflicted now, I’m addicted now
It’s been so many years
Never go and please stay near

9. Indifferent Eyes
Last night I thought of the way
When we would hang out night and day
Singing of reveries that’d turn into memories
Of which our futures were made

And even back then we did know
Those magic moments would go
The way of our yesterdays, never to be replayed
But somewhere deep in our souls

And once we’d part, we’d hang on broken hearts

The sun in the sky will soon rise
And new colors will light up the skies
While those of us who came from a world not so new
Would be met with indifferent eyes!
The sun in the sky will soon set
And with that I’m sure I can bet
I’d rather stay lonely and stuck with my memories
I’m not meant to forget

I know I’ll soon grow old
My heart will turn to coal
But that’s a defense I heard
And I believed every word
Everything I was told

But time finds me to feel the same
I only respond to the names
We knew in our yesterdays
Never to be replayed
Nostalgia can not be tamed

Nostalgia just can not be tamed!

And once we’d part
We’d hang on broken hearts
But our souls would take wing
When the moon would coax us to sing!!!!

The sun in the sky then did rise
And new colors all lit up the skies
While those of us who came from a world not so new
Were all met with indifferent eyes!
The sun in the sky then did set
And with I knew I could bet
I’d rather stay lonely and stuck with my memories
I’m not meant to forget
I’d rather stay lonely and stuck with my memories
I’m not meant to forget!

10. Life Is Grand
My story’s not too different
From those who are my age
Who’ve managed to survive
Through all of life’s little stages
Things that did seem all planned out
Trom the day that we were born
Yet when we reach a certain time
We come across a brewing storm

Which raged so deep inside our head
Making us feel so sure

That when we become both stiff and dead
We’ll never be more than obscure
Oh Life is great, oh life is grand!
Oh to be a working man!
I’ve done torn up both my hands
And I’m still buried in the sand
Why we wake up everyday
With all the fights we have to face?

When together we should all commiserate…

For when we fall and nothing’s left
There’s two things we can do

We can cry and whine and bitch and moan
Or take a course so shiny and new

And follow it until it the bitter end
For there’s nothing left to lose
And then you can begin again
I swear to God that that’s the truth!
So until that magic kicks in
Be wise, act like a sage
You worked all your best years away
And your trophy is old age!
Your trophy is old age!

The house that I tried my whole life to build
Under all of its excess weight the damn thing began to tilt
It fell, leaving me completely and utterly bereft
Tut I felt strangely good with nothing left!

Oh life is grand, oh life can be so great!

11. Our Final Dance
We are fortunate
That we have this chance
While the sun sets
And the moon shows its face and begins to enchant
We know life is short
The days all speed by
If you look away you will
Live with regret if you dare bat an eye!

To resist is futile
I’ll be right here and I will wait all the while

So come here and land
In my arms and I’ll
Try to use my remaining charms
To take you with me
So we can take the night
Before morning light comes
And the night takes flight
For someday we won’t spin around
Cause our dying bodies will drag us down
So let’s take tonight it’s our golden chance
Let’s pretend this could be our final dance

There’s not much to say
And I well do know it
Tonight I’m not trying
To be some sort of kind of romantic poet

For who needs that now
Now the night has arrived
And nothing will bring us down

12. One Kind Word
While out looking for a reason
I went to see a fortune teller
And my heart was strongly beating
For what I was about to tell her

I held on to all she said
To see if somehow I just might
Find something there in her words
A certain clue to shed some light

One kind word is all it takes to keep me sailing
One kind word can keep a broken heart from failing

So this fortune teller told me
The answer you already know
I looked at her quite bewildered
Was this real or just a show?

And then she said “You’re not the first
I have heard all this before
Don’t waste time on broken dreams
Now let me show you to the door”

One kind word is all it takes to keep me sailing
One kind word can keep a broken heart from failing

13. Farewell My Heart
Farewell my heart, you naughty little thing
Farewell to all the mischief you bring

Farewell my heart, you deceived me again
And all of this time, I thought you were my friend

Farewell my heart, you nasty little thing!
Farewell to all the troubles you bring

Farewell my heart, I was a foolish man
For putting all my trust in your dirty hands

Could it be I was the one to blame?
Always chasing temporary fragile little flames

What can I say? I was made that way!
For that I am destined! Farewell my heart!

Farewell my heart, you naughty little thing!
Farewell to all, the mischief you bring!

If there is one way, for us to survive
It’s to say farewell so we can both stay alive

Could it be I was the one to blame?
Always chasing temporary fragile little flames

What can I say? I was made that way!
For that I am destined! Farewell my heart!

Farewell my heart, it was good for a while
Let’s say farewell!

Could it be I was the one to blame?
Always chasing temporary fragile little flames
What can I say? I was made that way!
For that I am destined..
Farewell my heart!

14. Burning The Candle At Both Ends
Once upon a time a candle that I had
I’d use to light up the darkest night
I would use the candle to see in the dark
On nights when there was no light
This little candle was my shining little friend
And on my face it put a smile

So back in my time
I should have thrown caution to the wind
Because in no time I’d be
Burning the candle at both ends

This past Christmas time my good friend did buy me
A pretty candle from the corner store
But I lit from both ends and soon it was gone
And I found myself yearning for more

So back in my time
I should have thrown caution to the wind
Because in no time I would be
Burning the candle
I’d be burning the candle
I’d be burning the candle at both ends
